Introduction:

Predatory publishing is an increasingly important problem for science. In Taiwan, policy initiatives to curb predatory publishing are mostly based on the assumption that scholars publish in predatory journals because they naively fall for the lure of quick publications. However, is that the correct assumption? In this lecture, we explore the characteristics of predatory publishers and why academics publish in predatory journals. We hope to create more discussions on Predatory publishing issues from different perspectives.
